AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. This is an elective class available to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. An application is required. Please review the brochure and see if this is something you might be interested in pursuing.
 
What AVID Is:
-An in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success

-For all students, but it targets those in the academic middle

What AVID Is Not:
-a remedial program

-a free ride

-a school within a school

-a quick fix

-an affirmative action program

Who is an AVID Student?

AVID students are students in the academic middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path with support.  These students often are not realizing their full potential academically.  In the identification process, several criteria are considered, including:

-State test scores ~ Adv/ Prof. in math

-Grades ~ 2.0 – 3.5

-Citizenship ~ no N’s

-Attendance ~ few absences

-Desire and determination
