Acts of Kindness

We are promoting "Kindness Day" on Thursday, May 5. Classes will support random acts of kindness, and ASB has activities and ideas. This is a great time to talk with your children about the importance of being kind, and have them experience the good feeling of helping others. Perhaps your family could do something in your neighborhood, an act of kindness for a specific neighbor, or something for a team or organization. Maybe it's time to clean out some items and donate to a charity. Perhaps some allowance could be contributed to a good cause. The trait of kindness can be taught and strengthened with effort.

The Orange County Department of Education is launching its "One Billion Acts of Kindess" initiative May 5. Click the link for to see what they have planned, and how you can record and share your acts of kindness. This is definitely a trait we all want to see in ourselves and others.

Yorba Linda Wins Award

Yorba Linda Middle School is now a Schools to Watch recipient. Yorba Linda Middle School has been selected as a model middle grades school in the 2015-2016 'Schools to Watch™ -- Taking Center Stage' program. The school held a special ceremony to mark this honor on Thursday, Feb. 18. Several dignitaries helped celebrate this prestigious designation.

Mr. Malotte and teachers, shown here with Superintendent Dr. Domene and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, received this award on behalf of staff and students this week in Sacramento.

Parent University Classes

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District values the active role parents take in their child’s education. In order to support this relationship, the District has implemented a parent education program entitled “Parent University.”

We offer free workshops on various educational topics throughout the school year so parents can become better equipped to support their child’s learning. Research indicates that when schools work together with families to support learning, students perform better in school and throughout life.

Classes include:

  • Navigating the College System
  • Student Academics
  • Parenting Support
  • Student Safety

Classes are offered in English and Spanish.  For full class descriptions, click the link.ParentUniversityLogo_oval.jpg
